This weekend Median is competing in the final stage of the 2014 asp world tour. It is to be held at one of Hawaii's most coveted waves 'Pipeline'. Its been a very interesting year for the 20 year old 'chocolate milk loving' surfer. Blazing on to the scene early by wining the years first event Quicksilver Pro Gold Coast and quickly following that up with the Billabong Pro Tahiti victory.
Medina's win at the Billabong Pro Tahiti generated surfings largest ever live audience
What has been most impressive about this young surfer is his ability to hold his own angst surfing royalty like Kelly Slater (11 world titles) and Mick Fanning (3 world titles). Both Kelly and Mick are still in the race and very hungry for another world title. Adding to the already charged atmosphere is the fact that no South American man has ever won the ASP World Title.
Medina has the weight of his county resting on his shoulders
Brazil wants and needs a new sports star especially after their embracing performance in the world cup.
Is Gabriel Medina the Next Ayrton Senna?
Will this young man be able to hold his nerve in the face of one of the worlds most testing waves competing angst 2 of the worlds most experienced competitive surfers? Will Brazil be able to wave their flag from the highest podium? Will the Brazilian people once again have a sporting hero capable of putting the whole country in a state of commotion?
